When the world seems to have gone mad, with bombings, explosions, and earthquakes; and we in the very same week must say good-bye to a long-time friend and mentor, who left this earth too suddenly for those of us left behind, it is good to return to some sense of normalcy in the daily round.
So today, we dug out the books, and just for a little while, focused on the task at hand- fractions, decimals, biology, space, comparative adverbs, Shakespeare's quotes.
We also made a big, cinnamony bread pudding (I tweaked the recipe just a bit- one less egg, more butter). Simple rhythms and good smells from the kitchen to calm the soul.
Just taking one little step, doing the next right thing, taking it one day at a time right now. And that is enough.
You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3
Giving thanks for the day to day rituals that ground us today.
